Jeep jl second battery location.
Hi, I was wondering what to expect, if anything, when I disconnect my battery for a short time in my 2022 JLUR. I have never had a Jeep and was wondering what might be lost when I do this, (like radio presets, my Tazer settings, etc...). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Beemer533. If you have the 3.6 it's basically under the main battery. You can get to through the fender or from the top. Through the top requires pulling the Fuse box, which isn't too bad. Supposedly going through the fender is easier, but I haven't done it personally. If it is really dead, you won't be stranded but ESS won't work (if you care).The etorque system runs the auto start/stop system with a 48 volt battery and a water cooled motor/generator unit (MGU) that auto starts AND delivers a low RPM torque boost to the engine via the serpentine belt. This system has a separate cooling system for just the electronics and the MGU.Even if your cranking battery gets too low to start the engine, simply press a button to jump start from your second battery. Pic 3 Depicts direction of running red positive wire to battery. Pic 4 depicts where the wire will leave the cabin and into the engine compartment. Step 3- run the wire using a hanger down the seam of the engine compartment and connect to battery positive terminal. Pic 5- shows where to run the wire in the engine bay.
From looking at the location where my 48volt battery is, the battery pack appears to be as big as a regular 12volt starting battery, if not bigger. But I have not removed the skid plate and measured the actual battery pack yet. Are you thinking of the small battery used for ESS (which underneath the main battery) on 3.6 and non-eTorque 2.0 engines?

The Jeep is still under warranty, and a DIY replacement would cost $300+, so I'd like a quick assessment before I take it into the dealer for warranty replacement. A DIY replacement would only take 15 minutes (thanks Jeep for making it easy on an Ecodiesel), but why spend $300 unnecessarily? The Jeep has less than 8,000 miles.

I've been having to jumpstart my car almost daily the past few weeks. 2019 JL wrangler MOAB. 48,000 miles. Battery should last way longer than 2.5 years. Autozone did a battery test and it said 85% charged, but bad battery. Oreilly also showed it's a bad battery. At least in the 3.6L those batteries are connected in parallel at all times but an instant at crank and during ESS events. However, it's not clear if that applies to the factory battery or not. Most agree that it does not. the aux battery is a 12 month warranty except for the original which is covered for the full 3 year 36k miles.
