Fuji Instax is a cheaper and arguably better instant film that is slightly cheaper. But for both Polaroid and Instax, the cost is closer to 2$ a shot than 1$. For beginner cameras, try finding a used Polaroid 600. I think they have a lot more character than the new ones, and the film just has that vintage look that I really like.
