Cross Canyon Creek, the main stream you have been following up the valley and begin the earnest climb up to Rachel Lake. The trail starts out in really good shape. After the last turn-off to Mt. Si at about 4.5 miles, it levels out. That's also where you start to see snow. It's easy at first since it's flat, and the trail is obvious.
